GENERAL OVERVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT IN INDIA

What to expect in India
We have all heard of the dirt and poverty of India.  It is dirty and there is a great deal of poverty.  This does strike you as soon as you arrive in the country and start seeing the local streets.  Cows do roam freely, trash is in the streets and run down buildings and shops are evident everywhere.  Traffic is incredible with no concept of lanes or order.  There is an immediate culture shock. 

However, there is also a large emerging well educated middle class culture and a new India emerging. The new India offers first class luxury accommodation, clean and excellent fine restaurants and shops offering every luxury product you can imagine.  A new wave of industry and investment in the country is every where with high tech leading the way. The new business center of Delhi with the parks, greenery flowers and modern building could be anywhere in the United States. The area around the government buildings and the Indian Gate memorial reminds me of Washington DC.   

After a few days to adjust to the situation I started to notice that the majority of the people are very friendly and seem to be very happy with their situation.  I spend a lot of time in one of the poorest states in the country areas. People would smile, the children were laughing and waving. This country is very religious and they have religious festivals constantly.  We saw so many celebrations and one with the full elephant parade that was really a fascinating sight. 

What struck me most was the colors of India. The saris in every color in the rainbow even in the poorest areas are really beautiful.  The brightly painted trucks and buses are everywhere.
